Girl v. Clutter

All About
the Girl v. Clutter home edition
program

Having a cluttered home can take the joy out of your life. It can cause stress, and anxiety - and it contributes so much to your overwhelm. If you feel like every time you walk into your home, you are confronted with all of those reminders of how messy you are, this program is for you.

The Girl v. Clutter Home Edition will guide you through the process of organizing your home. We will select specific areas to work in – the most popular areas our clients have struggled with for the last 15 years – and teach you how to organize. We will explore why letting go is so difficult.

There is an art to organizing, and it is counterintuitive. We will help you become more aware of the strategies you need to use to have an organized space – including how to get rid of stuff, what tools and products can help, and how to create habits that will help you maintain your new decluttered environment.

We will share all of our best tips, resources, and favorite products to help you accomplish your goals.

If you choose, it will be within a supportive community of like-minded women in our private Facebook group.

What Is Decluttering?

Decluttering is the process of prioritizing what you have in your home. It is different from organizing, but a tool that can help improve your ability to organize.

Decluttering and Minimalism Are Two Different Things

Decluttering and minimalism are two different things. Minimalism is an extreme version of decluttering that’s not suitable for most people who want to actually live in their homes. Minimalism can be great for people who travel full-time or have an RV or tiny home lifestyle, but for most of us, all we want to do is to see our sofas and find our clothes and spices a little easier.

Perfectionism Is the Bad Guy

Your home is never going to be perfectly organized or perfectly decluttered. It’s just not possible. The laundry and dishes make sure of that! It’s ok to not be perfect – to just learn some new skills that help you love your space a little more and feel a little less overwhelmed.

Benefits of Decluttering

Decluttering can have several benefits, including:

Improves your organization

By removing unnecessary items from your living space, it can make it easier to find what you need and give you less stuff to store, so you can keep your home more organized.

Reduces your stress

Clutter can be overwhelming and stressful, and getting rid of it can help create a more peaceful and calming environment.

Increases your productivity

When your surroundings are cluttered, it can be hard to focus and be productive. Decluttering can help clear your mind and make it easier to get things done.

Improves your mental health

Clutter can contribute to feelings of anxiety and depression. Decluttering can help improve your mood and overall well-being.

Saves you money

By decluttering, you may find items you forgot you had, this way you can avoid buying things you already own.

Inspiration for better use of your space

When you declutter, you can create more space in your home, and be inspired to see your space in.

ASSESS YOURSELF

Select a room to use for your assessment. In this example, we’ll use a living room.

Where are you at on the messy scale?

🔲 Living out of the pottery barn and want to take it up a notch.
🔲 Busy living but but would like to be able to find my bills when it's time to pay them.
🔲 Really messy.

You will learn about using categorization. Make a decision about every item in that messy corner, then make your way around the room. Typical categories are: keep, donate, get rid of, curb side recycle (and maybe sell).

Here are some possible ways sorting could be implemented:

Alphabetical sorting: Items could be sorted alphabetically by name, making it easy to find specific items.

Categorical sorting: Items could be sorted by category, such as by type of item (clothing, electronics, etc.), by room or area of the house, or by frequency of use.

photo-1512805668868-1608a189cc2b

Custom sorting: Users could create their own sorting rules, such as sorting items by color, size, or personal preference.

Sorting by date: Users could sort items by the date they were acquired, used, or last accessed.

Priority sorting: Items could be sorted by priority, such as high-priority items that need to be easily accessible, or low-priority items that can be stored out of the way.

Sorting by frequency of use: Users could sort items by how frequently they are used, with the most frequently used items being stored in the most accessible locations.

Smart sorting: Sorting could be automated using machine learning algorithms that learn the user's preferences over time and suggest optimal sorting methods based on those preferences.

We will cover: Storage Solutions

Storage solutions help organize belongings in a way that maximizes the living space. Some of our favorites include:

Closet organizers

Closet organizers can help users maximize the space in their closets by providing additional shelves, rods, and compartments for storing items. They can also make it easier to keep the closet organized and clutter-free.

Under-bed storage

Under-bed storage containers or bags can be a great way to store items that are not used frequently, such as seasonal clothing or extra bedding. This frees up space in other parts of the room while keeping these items easily accessible. Bed risers are great to help use this tool.

Shelving units

Shelving units can be used to store items in any room of the house. They can be used to display decorative items or to store books, toys, or other belongings. Some shelving units can be customized to fit specific spaces or needs.

Storage ottomans

Storage ottomans are a great option for small living spaces because they can serve a dual purpose as a seat and a storage container. They can be used to store blankets, pillows, or other items that would otherwise take up valuable space.

Wall-mounted organizers

Wall-mounted organizers can be used to store a variety of items, from jewelry and accessories to office supplies and craft materials. They can be mounted on walls or doors to save floor space and keep items easily accessible.

Donation and Disposal Solutions

A list of resources to help in donation and disposing of unwanted items will be provided.

What Others Are Saying About Us

Thank you all for your inspiration- joining this group has really helped me. I’m not usually a joiner, or sometimes join but don’t participate. However forcing myself to join and actually do the work and post about it has been a very positive experience for me. I will keep going to my closet...

I tackled my coat closet! It was a bit of an emotional process because there were many items belonging to my late husband. I now have a large pile of coats/jackets to donate as well as 2 bags of shoes/work boots. So happy I pushed through and stuck with it!
